For my part, I hope EVERYONE uses one. It keeps the cameras in nicer
condition for when I buy them. :-) Oh, they're fine for when all you're
carrying is the camera, but how many of us do that? Factor in things
(lenses, battery packs) that make the camera not fit in its case, and they
become pretty much a waste.
For $13, I recently found a small "walking around" bag in the purse
section(!) of Wal*Mart. It's about the size and shape of a small car
battery -- black fabric, wide canvas strap, two zipper pockets on the
front, mesh pockets on the ends, and a zipper top. It'll hold a camera
body with 28-70 zoom, a 70-300 zoom, a flash and several rolls of film. A
couple of removable dividers left over from customizing the big bag
complete the transormation from purse into camera bag.
