Default Deep purple becomes navy blue

I have a Panasonic GS400 camera and when I video an item with a deep purple
items like R 90, G 10 and B 110 they turn out like navy blue.

As I am looking at upgrading to a better performing camera, especially in
lower light situations in regards to noise and auto focus and I am
considering an Canon HX A1.

I am sure the Canon performs better in low light but can anyone confirm that
the Canon XH A1 produces a better colour when presented with purple as
described above.

Regards,

Martin

Not familiar with that camera, but if it has manual white balance. use it. You cant trust any of the
auto features. Are you saying that you are using manual white balance and the color is still off?
Are other colors off too?

The problem is not white balance. It is colorimetry (the ability of the
camera to accurately detect hues of color). Modern purple dyes used
for clothing fabric reflect spectra that are difficult for many video
cameras
to reproduce properly. This is a known problem and affects cameras
from the lowest-end to big broadcast cameras.

Hi Tony,
Sorry but I started this subject twice, the second time with the camera
models in the Subject header.

Only the darker purple colours are affected.

Martin
