DV Handycam not showing up

I borrowed a Sony DCR-TRV110E. I brought it home, turned it on and to VTR
mode, and connected it to my Windows XP SP1 computer through its firewire
card. But nothing happened. I tried using several video programs to
capture the video, Premiere, VideoStudio, but none acknowledge the existance
of the camera. In my Device Manager I see "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host
Controller" under "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" and "1394 Net Adapter"
under "Network Adapters", so I assume my Firewire card is working properly
(this is the first time I've tried using it).

Any suggestions on how to get the Digital Handycam working on my computer?

Thanks
-Adam

As a workaround for this problem, I am able to connect the Handycam to my
computer using S-Video and my analogue capture card, and capture using the
DV Codec. But I have another question: should I still capture at 720x576
(for PAL DV) or is another resolution preferable since I'm going through
analogue not digital.

Thanks again

Connect the camcorder to the PC and turn it on before you boot up the PC.

I had that problem, and after reading in a danish news group, I tried to
buy another cable (another brand), which worked.

In the discussion in the danish ng 3 other prople had tried the same. One
even had to try 3 cables before finding one that worked.

Oh k, thanks. I might try the cable that belongs to the person I borrowed
it from, that works for them and their iMac. Is this just a picky camera or
something?
