Help me buy camera with GOOD zoom?

Ooops, how embarrasing. My appologies.

Still, the usefullness of image stabilization does depend on the
(current) focal lenght of a lens, not on the zoom factor of a lens, i.e.
it is much more useful on a 200-400mm which is only 2X, than on a
18-135mm which is 7.5X (this time I did use a calculator).

The post that started this thread included ". is it possible
to get a low cost camera with 12x zoom like his? My
response was to that question, not what is possible with a
an expensive camera.

I original poster in above.... have a few more
questions

I saw some of the newer camcorders out the other day
and man are they small now!!

They also have zooms out of this world.... 40x!

So....what abt buying a small camcorder with such a
zoom and if wanting pics just "pulling" them off the
video?
