I have an upcoming project (10-min short film) that is going to be shot
in "HD" video. Now I am not sure what type of HD this means, frame
rates, interlaced, progressive, resolution, anything. I am a novice at
the format. But I do know I need to edit and composite on Windows,
using AE 6.5 Pro and Premiere 1.5.

Can someone help me get the ball rolling on codecs/plugs/hardware I'll
need? Any suggestions on workflow or what I'll need to watch out for?
I currently have a dual xeon 3.0 2gb RAM and about 500gb of disk space.

Thanks!

Dunno how you can commit to a project with so little information?

Are you prepared to buy new NLE/effects software if necessary?
Will you find out the details before they hand you the tape?

Sounds like a respectable system to edit on.

With Premiere Pro 1.5 you are limited to few choices. Cineform comes to mind
first. Check the Adobe webiste. There's a necessary update for 1.5 to 1.51,
or something like that, which accomodates HDV editing. Pro 1.5 does not have
native HD or HDV editing.

Edius Pro 3.0 is better suited, and the new Premiere Pro 2.0 would be the
better bet over 1.5. It also wouldn't hurt to upgrade to AE 7.0 for this.

Premiere Pro 2.0 works very well on my single processor LGA775 3.8GHz with
2GB DDR-2 PC4200. AE 7 is much easier to use than even the previous
versions, and Encore 2.0 rocks!

I've found out more since, It's HDV from a Sony HDV cam. I believe it
will be 4:3 60i. I will look into the Cineform and Premiere 2.0/AE 7
options.

Thanks!
