Hi all,

Thinking of D70 as my first DSLR, I would like to hear from your
experience with this camera. Please port them. Thanks in advance.

Aside from the site reviews there are also user reviews and forums to

I'm about to venture out for my third weekend with my D70. Camera
worked fine with all of my existing AF-D lenses (Nikkor and Sigma).
Battery life is superb. Punched out about 380 images so far (~10% with
in-built flash) and I'm still on the first charge.

Very few grumbles so far. Only gripe, really, is a bit of vignetting
on the kit 18-70 lense when it's out wide.

As has been stated in other forums, the D70 mid-tones tend to be a
little subdued. But I loaded up David F's custom curve profile
(http://members.iinet.net.au/~dfx/Dav...toneBoostA.ntc) and the
resulting image response reminds me a lot of Kodak E100VS and (to a
lesser extent) Fuji Velvia. FANTASTIC!

Cheers... Derek (DJ)

DJ - I've been under the assumption that the D70 will take manual nikon
lenses as well - have you tried this?

As i understand it, it'll mount them, but won't meter at all. i've
always been a bit bitter that you can't even use centre-weighted stop
down metering with the newer nikons bodies...

As a footnote, those using D100's and D70's may also want to check out

You can rummage through the archives that have various curves and,
depending on what effect you're looking for, they may be more suitable
than
the high contrast, colour rich curve mentioned above.

No, haven't tried it myself.

But according the manual they WILL bolt-up to the body. You just have
to use full manual mode (no metering or DVP/P/S/A options).

I found this listed as point 11, 2/3rds the way down the page "Can be
used in mode M, but camera exposure meter cannot be used. "

http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1075266004.html

From my limited digital camera experience they tend to have better low
light capacity than film. So does the sunny 16 rule (and all its
derivatives) apply to digital SLRs?
