Your problem is more likely to be with the tape drive mechanism, so it
doesn't really matter whether it is analogue or digital - the mechanics are
very susceptible to vibration.
Same will go for hard disk recorders too.
Probem is, solid state is very expensive for this length of recording - how
about an RF link?
Are the other race participents likely to be handicapped with a similar
weight?
Is it not a real race? could you use RF with a chase car?
