ICE is brilliant unless you are scanning Kodachrome (sometimes it is OK
sometimes it isn't) or B&W (it just doesn't work). If you want quality
scans you need a scanner with ICE.

Here in the UK second-hand examples of Nikon scanners don't come up very
often on Ebay, and with the current models they go for almost as much as
the best prices on a new one, so when I brought a Coolscan V I brought
new - I got a guarantee and a decent returns policy.
I also got a batch slide feeder for it which was a good buy on Ebay.
Before I brought the Nikon I did try scanning some slides with an old
flatbed scanner with a light back for doing slides, and the quality
simply doesn't compare.
