Hello, Rich:

Oh, and >why< is that? Can't Pentax find another sensor supplier
(e.g., Kodak)?

Probably not. There aren't a lot of sensor manufacturers able to
manufacture high resolution, low noise, large sensors. Nikon got stuck
in this same situation as they fell behind Canon in full frame, until
Nikon decided to do the investment in sensor development, which is
extremely expensive and time-consuming. Canon and Nikon are probably not
going to be selling sensors to Pentax.

Kodak used to make some large sensors in Israel at the Fill Factory fab
which used to be a National Semiconductor fab, but they were just large,
and not very good.

Pentax and Samsung have a partnership agreement, perhaps they are
contractually obligated to use Samsung sensors.
