The answer is easy - if you get a Digital SLR (such as the Canon 10D) you
can set the dioptric correction on the TTL viewfinder. Even if your sight is
really bad you can get an additional viewfinder lens - for your spec - your
optician will tell you what it should be from your prescription. Cost? - the
Canon EOS lens costs about £15.

Depends how much your arms and legs are worth. You can get an EOS 10D for
£1,250, maybe a bit less. And £100 off if you subscribe to EOS Magazine.
