Default camera for close-ups

Greetings

I'm going to be purchasing a digital camera soon - partly for general family
stuff, but I will also want it to take close-ups of jewellery items
(ear-rings, necklaces etc) on display stands - with the aim of showing
photos on the net to sell them in ebay.

Can anyone please tell me if I need a camera with some minimum of optical
zoom in order to do this? What sort of quality/resolution is needed to put
photos on the net?

Will probably have more questions as I start to think of specific cameras.

Cheers

My son, who's wife is a manufacturing jeweller, uses a Canon A80 but any
camera with a similar macro capability would do as well, probably.

Thanks, I'll look up the specs of that camera.

3.2 megapixels Olympus C-160 (In Europe it is D395)

Inexpensive and the macro colors are good in low light..

Take a look (no flash)

I've put 640x480 photos on eBay that look just fine. You need a lot more
resolution for prints then you do when posting on the Net.
