Default digital rebel tripod

Hi everyone. I recently just bought a Canon Digital Rebel SLR camera.
I'm pretty new to all this photography stuff though. My current tripod
is a cheapy, and it just can't handle the beefiness of the Digital
Rebel. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on a good
quality, but affordable, tripod that won't crumble under the weight of
this camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Holidays.

My all time favorite: Bogen 3050. I bought it back in my 4x5 days.
Semi-kidding on that as I do use it for studio work with my Oly C-7000.
Solid as a rock, but weighs as much as a boulder.

A little more portable is my aging Diawa Hi-Ace. Wonderful, but I don't know
if it's made / imported anymore. I brought it back from Japan in 1974. You
might also look for the Star-D, a knock off of the Leitz Tiltall. I'm
partial to anything with Bogen's name on it, but they can be pricey. Velbon
also make some excellent tripods for the money. I have their tabletop model.
It extends to about 20" or so and closes into a small package that you can
fit into a back-pack or fanny pack. Fully functional pan and tilt head that
flips for verticals and three section legs with extendable center column.
This usually travels with me and is great for additional support when placed
on car hoods, available rocks and tables. Oh yes, it also held my Calumet
4x5 on more than on occasion when I needed a low perspective.
