Has anyone had any experience with the software package that comes
with the Pentax Optio S40 camera? (ACDSee for Pentax) I have been trying unsucsessfully to instal it on a computer with Win98SE. The ACDSee Device Detector is supposed to detect the camera when it is switched on and make the computer see the camera as a removable drive. The Icon for the Device Detector is there, but it does not seem to see the camera. The USB cable is OK because sometimes when the camera is switched on Windows sees it as a USB device and wants to install software for it. (Tried that and doesn't work either) The retailer where I bought it (Retravision) doesn't want to know because it is not a Camera problem, and the Australian Pentax distributor (C. R. Kennedy & Company) have not been much help. I have emailed ACDsee but don't expect a reply very soon. Any helpfull information on this would be appreciated as this camera is a Xmas present for someone very special. Thanks in advance. Phill. phill@4mfilters.com |

Drop Win98 SE. It's not too widely supported anymore. I sympathize with you
as I'd hate to give up an OS that works just fine, but more applications are being released that don't support Win98. Personally, I love OS/2, but no one supports it anymore. -- ________________________________ Iraq is a Farsi phrase meaning Viet Nam <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed)... > Has anyone had any experience with the software package that comes > with the Pentax Optio S40 camera? I have considered it in the past but I don't know what to go for as
the options all have their own problems. No-one I have talked to about OS's is totally happy with their choice. All have differing opinions on what is better. ![]() On Wed, 29 Dec 2004 22:21:12 -0500, "xDsrtRat" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote: >Drop Win98 SE. It's not too widely supported anymore. I agree that they all have problems, but I've found Windows 2000 and Windows
XP to fairly stable and supporting a wide range of hardware / software. My preference is Windows 2000 as the interface is cleaner with less overhead that WinXP. XP has a slight edge in that support for XP will continue after support for Win2K stops. -- ________________________________ Iraq is a Farsi phrase meaning Viet Nam <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed)... > I have considered it in the past but I don't know what to go for as > the options all have their own problems. I had a similar problem with a Nytech camera, I eventually got it working, Before going out and upgrading hardware / software have you tried a card reader, ok it may be a pain to keep taking the card out, but it may be a short term solution. Sometimes it a case of getting things installed in the right order, have a look at device manager to see if there is conflict, if needs be remove the drivers and start again, Hope this helps, you may want to try a windows based newsgroup, For the record, Linux picked up my camera, with less hassle, Windows XP on the other hand which is on my laptop, did not even find the camera, and that is supposed to work with it. In my case it probably does not help that I already have drivers for a sony and fiji camera, installed. Strange how this happens. Hope this helps Paul (E-Mail Removed) wrote: > Has anyone had any experience with the software package that comes > with the Pentax Optio S40 camera? Hi Paul,
There in no conflict in Device Manager. I have re-installed things over and over in all the combinations I can but to no avail. I have tried to download pics from my other camera which is a TWAIN device (not a removable drive USB device) and it works just fine. I am afraid that a card reader will be just as invisible to ACDSee as the camera is.
