Transferring Digital Video to my PC? Digital Video newsgroup?

Hi all. I scanned the posts and didn't see much discussion on video
Camcorders....but I thouht I'd ask the question.

I bought a Cannon Optura 400 Mini DV camera. I upgraded my operating system
to XP. I bought and installed a firewire card. I have both Pinnacle
Software (came with the camera) and Roxio 7.

I cannot get the digital video from the camera to my PC. With both pieces
of software I can control the camera from my PC. When I capture the video I
get "snow". Its colored snow but in now way a picture. The sound is
jumbled also. So - since it is happening with both software, it has to be
the card, wire or camera. I assume I'm communicating with the camera since
I can control it with the software.

Also, can you suggest a newsgroup about digital video??

Thanks for any help you can provide. I just spent a pretty penny and still
can't get my video onto CD.

There are two video format do you have the right one selected.
