What is disgruntling is persons giving opinions regarding the AVIO when they
have actually never tried one.

When it comes to intensive SFX, if necessary, I work on my P4 and upload the
finished product to my AVIO using the DV or USB input. The AVIO compliments
a computer based editing suite....it does not replace it.

The AVIO is a major time saver. It is easy to learn and it delivers HI
quality video and audio. It is not the tool of choice for every job but it
sure has earned a spot in our studio.

I have tried one and had a good demo on a tradeshow and in a shop.

Well, you pretended different before......

Well, AVID has a steep learning-curve for people used to work with
standard PC-apps, because it's using a non-standard GUI. But on the
other hand, if you never had computer-experience before, it is quick
to learn too. Like I said before, I teach students about
post-production, and it all depends on how interested and bright one
is, how quick one learns. I have students which struggle heaps with
something simple as discreet edit, and others whizz in no time through
FCP 3 without any previous knowledge.
