Hi, I am thinking of buying the Canon 300d, While researching this model
(the price has crashed to about £450 )I heard about changing the firmware,
Is it advisable and can it be easily found ?

It takes about 5 minutes, and is downloaded from Canon's web site.
Not a problem at all.
-Quite automatic and reliable.

If you're talking about the hacked firmware to get some of the "hidden"
functions back, then the answer is maybe.

I didn't think he was talking about the hack.
He sounded like he was new, and was just confused about firmware updates.

If he meant the hack...then no, of course it's not on Canon's site.

Yes I am new, I have been used to slr`s but new to digital, I posted because
I had read that the 300d had become so cheap that the added function from
alt firmware make it somewhat a bargain, All I need now is info to enhance
my ability to use my pc to proccess the pics, Thanks for the reply`s.

Most of what you probably know about SLR, applies to digital-SLR. The
differences are film versus digital and field of view crop factors...oh,
and no developing costs. Beyond that, it's mostly the same stuff.

What kind of processing do you wish to do? There are lots of options in
that regard, depending on your needs.

Well, I have read that capture in raw mode and develop (so to speak )the
image with suitable software will produce the best images, I beleive that
some of the point and shoot stuff has picture proccesing to make shots look
good straight from the box, Howether I might be wrong so want to go down
that road b/4 parting with to much dosh, I am just starting out on this path
if anyone has advise I sure would apreciate.
