f stop scale

    Could someone please add to the f.stop scale for me, need to know it upto
    about 500

    1/ 1.4 / 2 / 2.8 / 4 / 5.6 / 8 / 11 / 16 / 22 / 32 / 45 / 64 /

    Just take the square root of 2 (approximately 1.4) and keep multiplying it by
    itself.

    as you can see from Andrews post there are different ways of determining it
    and it will vary the number but you will need a big lens for any of the
    larger values as the hole size is very small on even a 50mm lens

    Well i dont exactly need to put such a small stop on the lens, it's just to
    work out some hi-speed cinematography and relative light levels at 2,000
    fps.

    Are you looking for values at 1/2 stop or 1/3 stop intervals?

    i've got one of those lightmeter scales for my pentax spotmeter. It was
    specially adapted for the meter. You can read the values straight off.
    And the meter was used for that exact purpose.

    since film school and this will fulfill my needs very well.

  11. Pretend that things start at '1'. Now the amount of light coming in is
    (approx) pi.r squared
    (bloody text-based system :).

    r=1, pi.r.sq=3.14...
    r=1.4, "=6.16

    now, since pi is common, lets remove it from the eqn so essentially we have
    r=1, r.sq=1
    r=1.2, r.sq=1.44 (half stop)
    r=1.4, r.sq=1.96 (twice r=1, one stop)
    r=1.8, r.sq=
    r=1.8, r.sq=
    r=1.8, r.sq=
    r=1.8, r.sq=
    r=1.8, r.sq=

    Bugger - pressed the wrong key too quickly :)

    Pretend that things start at '1'. Now the amount of light coming in is
    (approx) pi.r squared
    (bloody text-based system :).

    r=1, pi.r.sq=3.14...
    r=1.4, "=6.16

    now, since pi is common, lets remove it from the eqn so essentially we have
    r=1, r.sq=1
    r=1.2, r.sq=1.44 (half stop)
    r=1.4, r.sq=1.96 (twice r=1, one stop)
    r=1.8, r.sq=3.24
    r=2, r.sq=4 (twice r=1.4, one stop further)
    etc for
    r=2.4, 2.8, 3.5, 4, 5.6, 6.7, 8, 9.5, 11, 13.5, 16, 19, 22, 32, 45, 64 etc.

    Then there's those pesky 1/3 stops that comes on the "cheaper" (more
    affordable!)
    zooms.

    The approx. for the pi.r.sq is of course that the aperture isn't a perfect
    circle ever.
    But we can ignore that :)
