Ulead Movie factory 2 capture problem

Just got UMF 2 and continue to get two error windows when I try to
capture video.

One is the same window you get in vdub when you forget to shift the
video display to preview mode so it is no longer shows every frame. It
is BtVid cannot capture and says to turn on preview mode. The other
error window is ulead - cannot open video input device.

The display shows the film I am trying to capture and all the settings
are correct.

I recently captured a video with vdub (145 min at 720x480) with few
dropped frames, so my system is up to it.

Is there a way to change the display in UMF2 to preview so I can
capture? Or is there something else that I should look at? (I did play
with the change capture feature.)

Also, that set of avi files that I captured in vdub are not recognized
by UMF2 while they play fine in WMP and Real. It did recognize a mpeg 1
file I created long ago. Any way to get UMF2 to recognize the avi files?

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2's capture plug-ins are designed as follows:

1. ULEAD DIRECT SHOW CAPTURE PLUG-IN

This plug-in is designed to support OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 cards
using the drivers embedded in Microsoft Windows to capture from
digital camcorders directly to the DV .avi file format.

2. ULEAD DSW MPEG CAPTURE PLUG-IN

This plug-in is designed to support OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 cards
using the drivers embedded in Microsoft Windows to capture from
digital camcordes directly to the MPEG file format

The Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 capture software can also recognize
VIDEO-FOR-WINDOWS drivers provided by the manufacturer of analog
capture devices.

You haven't exactly described which capture device you are using.

However, your post suggests you are using some type of analog capture
device, which would also suggest that you may need to visit the Web
site of the firm that manufactures your capture device to download any
newer driver that might exist.

Hope this helps,

MSVideo Brooktree Bt848 is the driver and is listed in the capture
window for capture settings. (Things are starting to become clear.)

When I use virtual dub to capture I have to shift the view video to
preview or I get an error "BtVid cannot capture" and tells you to shift
to preview. Once done, I have no problem capturing at 720x480.

That is the same error I get with Ulead MF. There is a "force preview"
check box but that does not do what the preview in vdub does, which is
to only allow some frames to be viewed, not all. Instead, in Ulead MF, I
get a great picture in the video box but no capture.

Since you are using an analog capture device, you probably should be
using the FORCE PREVIEW option.

In addition, you need to determine the location that you have
specified for captured files.

You can do this by clicking the button in the lower left corner of
your Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 interface.

Then click PREFERENCES.

Then observe the location of your WORKING FOLDER under the GENERAL
tab.

This is where captured files normally reside.

Did that too. Plus, tried several different locations.

If I could get the preview mode into actual preview mode it might work.
It does not seem to want to go into preview mode.

Have you been to the Web site of the company that manufactures your card?

Is there a newer VIDEO-FOR-WINDOWS capture driver available?
