Does anyone have any experience with the Wasia hack for the 300D? It is
supposed to unlock several 10D features which the 300D hardware is capable
of, but have been turned off via the firmware. (ISO 3200, mirror lock-up,
    custom functions, etc...)

The hack works fine in my 300d.

Been working great for me for months. Does everything it claims to do
(not ALL 10D features become available; some are limited by hardware)
and hasn't caused any problems or issues that I've ever noticed.

It's the best thing you can do to your 300d, it works fine, the features are
nice to have ( mirror lock up I use a lot) and the price is great. There is
no real downside..heck you can even go back if you want to for some reason.

Newbie question: what is the advantage of mirror lock up, and how is
    it used?

    Thanks Michael.

So does this increase the delay between pressing the shutter release
and the picture being taken? (I presume that without mirror lockup,
the mirror still has to be swung out of the path to the sensor).

For long-time exposures, locking up the mirror in advance of the
exposure eliminates the vibration it otherwise cause when it snaps up
out of the way of the focal plane.

The 10D manual would have how you actuate it with a hacked 300D.

This would be 2) in your description. The hack lets you set the time for the
delay after the shutter is pressed, from 1 up to 10 seconds or so . You
focus normally, then press the shutter, the mirror flips up, the viewfinder
goes black ( obviously) and then after the delay the shutter fires. You
would only use this on a tripod of course, under special circumstances, with
long lenses or in macro work.

For example, I used mirror lock up to shoot this picture of the moon, with a
100-400 mm lens ( @400) and a 1.4X teleconverter, with that long a lens the
mirror lock up makes a noticeable difference in sharpness.
