.3gp video format conversion

Discussion in 'Video Cameras' started by Synapse Syndrome, Jul 21, 2006.

  1. I have some .3gp format video clips from my mobile phone that I want to
convert to .avi or .mpg and out on my website.

Can anybody recommend a good program that can do this? Searching on Google
brings up a few possibilities, but I would like to know from somebody that
    has used one of these.

    Cheers

  2. Oh yes, I forgot to mention. The ones I have seen talked about on the net
seem to be ImTOO and Xilisoft, but they seem to convert *to* .3gp. Do they
also work the other way around?

  3. I didn't like the look of those two programs, and the fact that they need to
be paid for. I found this freeware, which seems to be pretty good:

If anybody still knows of anything better please tell me.

    Cheers

  5. You don't want to put AVI or MPG out on your website. MOV or WMV are
better alternatives because the decompressors are usually installed by
users with Quicktime or windows media players.

Quicktime and Real Player can natively play .3gpp anyway.
Quicktime Pro, $25 will convert from 3GP to (choose random format),
though best to compress to quicktime formats for most compatibility.

Don't be tempted to compress to H264 just yet, there's not a lot of
native support (requires quicktime 7 for players watching it)

    I use - ImTOO 3GP Video Converter

Not sure about Xbox but MicroSoft does have a habit of not following
    standards.

  9. It's got one of those skinned interfaces which I am not keen on, but it is
free and must be worth a look. Cheers.
