What is the purpose of your experiment, and you might consider a warning
about the size of the downloaded image. Not everybody has the speed
to d/l full size image. I gave up after several minutes.

  3. It took about 40 seconds on a 20Mb/s line here in the UK.

I would have given up as well.

Took the same here on a 4.5Mb line, must have been a limitation that the
    server end.

That said the image was not a particularly good one.

    No sharpening was applied.

My apologies for the big file.

Why do you say that? There is a lot of harsh texture, but that seems to
be because it *was* harsh texture. And it does seem over contrasty -
the highlights seem to very rapidly transition to blown.. But I don't
    see any evidence of oversharpening.

Not particularly good? I thought it was good and still think so. Oh well,
as posted earlier, I apologize for the large file.

Everything seems to be negative these days. I am enjoying my hobby and will
    look for other venues.

The photo link will be removed.

Too much resolution, too little resolution, tough to please folks these
    days.

    Thanks.

  10. Alan,

Just because my /line/ to my ISP can (and does) deliver 20Mb/s doesn't
mean that an end-to-end /link/ anywhere across the world can deliver the
same bandwidth, although many can. This one didn't, neither for me nor
    for Pete D.

    Cheers,
    David

Actually I think you have missed something here.

You posted a large picture that came with a heading of "40D and
    experimenting".

What was you experiment? What are you trying to achive? You gave no other
    information and expected exactly what?

The fact that people gave their opinion was just that and nothing more,
perhaps in the future think a bit more before you post about what you want
    in response.

And as for Doug it would seem he is blind in one eye and can't seem to get
    the other one working either.

    Cheers.

Well good for you, perhaps you should have mentioned that in the OP and told
us what you were trying to do.

Are you going to blow it up and put it on a building?

I posted because I am really enjoying the Canon EF 50mm 1:1.4. Did not want
to say that up front, as that tends to evoke a different kind of discussion.

    You can't win here.

    Yes, it was handheld.

    Thanks for your reasonable response.

Are you implying by that remark that you consider other responses to be
unreasonable? If so, I can assure you they were not.

I acknowledge your apology, but the most unreasonable post in this
    thread was your first.

"luck", or that you had a much shorter network connection, or that you
were the one person downloading the image at that time, or that the host
had stopped P2P sharing (and freed up upload bandwidth), or one of a dozen
    other factors!

My ISP is also rolling out 50Mb/s, but they traffic manage as well (i.e. a
20Mb/s line is reduced to 5Mb/s if you download "too much").

    Cheers,
    David

The shot was not sharpened and it definitely has appeal (to some).

Sigh, even after apologizing, there is always the residual backwash.
