A Murphy day

When I set out this morning the weather was cloudy. A perfect day to
shoot decaying the old houses and barns, I planned to shoot. I saw quite
a few candidates, but every time I too out the camera, the sun came out
and there was too much contrast. So I went to the shore to shoot long
exposure rocks in the water. You guessed it, the fog rolled in, reducing
visibility to almost zero. Perfect for decay, but too much for the shore.
Oh well, there will be another day.

 

What I sometimes do when conditions are not right is to exaggerate the
imperfections.



I think I would have tried for a high contrast shot...maybe a silhouette.


Just for example here are a few I took under poor lighting conditions,
I made no to attempt to bring out the subjects' facial features:

shots. It seemed like a conspiracy.
Well, tomorrow I am meeting someone at 4:00 AM. We are going for some
sunrise shots.

 

With the kind of luck you had today, better be sure the sun does not try
to come up in the West tomorrow!

Nice. Where is that? I have to assume Long Island, but didn't know it had
formations like that.

I believe you said you might visit Acadia this summer, and there are places
there with similar colors. But you wern't there a day or two ago, so I'm
guessing not.

That's great. We don't see too many tidal pools here on Lake Michigan...

nothing can beat the ocean.

That pool is in the path of a flow of scungy water from somewhere.

 

Bad guess. After the NECCC program we went to Ogonquit, Booth Bay, and
today is our third day in Bar Harbor.

 

That's algae.

 

Algae don't grow in water in noticeable concentrations unless it is
loaded with nutrients.

Martha and I got a huge laugh out of me being wrong about that one! But at
least I claim credit for my reluctance to place the shot on Long Island!

Enjoy the rest of your stay. It's really a beautiful place. And remember: For
your sunset shot on Cadillac Mountain, consider setting up in the last
overlook BEFORE the summit.
