Adobe lays off 750 workers to reach financial goals & emphasize
    digital focus
    November 8, 2011 | Jolie O'Dell

Adobe is handing pink slips to 750 of its full-time staff, the company
announced in an earnings report today.

The layoffs are part of Adobe’s plan to restructure the company,
placing a larger emphasis on digital media and digital marketing
    divisions.

  4. I jumped off the expensive Adobe upgrade treadmill (for video
editing software) years ago. Now there is even more reason to
have done it. Adobe will eventually suffer the ill effects of
their greed, since there are good alternatives for their
software, at least for editing video. For instance, one can
upgrade any old version of Sony Vegas Pro for $150 when a new
version of the software is introduced, and I also prefer it to
Adobe's Premiere... (I still use Adobe's Elements for photos,
    though).

It appears that Adobe is doing its best to kill Photoshop as an option
    for the hobbyist.

I for one couldn't justify use of the "cloud" rental option, and the
upgrade path from the current version only, is punitive to all who
usually plan a two generation upgrade path to fit their budget, or
    SW/hardware needs.

Other than OEM versions of PS Express & Elements, I have purchased LR,
    LR2, PS7, CS, CS2 upgrade, CS4 upgrade, & CS5 upgrade.

I was quite happy with CS4, but on trying the new features of CS5 I was
convinced to upgrade. The changes to CS6 will have to be substantial to
convince me to upgrade from CS5.
I suspect that there will not be any valid reason for CS5 users to up
grade to CS6 when it is released, and all the truly desirable advances
    will be in CS7.

I believe I might have bought my last PS upgrade.

The thing that keeps them in business is the relatively awful quality
of manufacturer-supplied or sold image software. Nikon, Panasonic,
Pentax, Olympus. All their software (even paid for stuff) is
generally poor, if your idea is workflow. I keep saying Adobe
shouldn't be so greedy, that (apart from offering FREE upgrades for
new cameras since they come out every six months) they should offer a
photo-only version of PS, without features that people simply do not
use for image processing and refinement. They could charge a tad less
for it and this might stave off some of the criticism of their
product. They could poll users, photographers as to what the best
features of such a program should have, then IF other photogs needed
specific, not-included or obscure funtions, then they could charge for
them like apps, or modules on an individual basis.
If they work it right, they won't lose money and users will be
    happier.

What you have described is Adobe Elements, but Elements does more. It
    is inexpensive, though.

Adobe are like Nikon, as described by one photographer I know, Nikon
does not take feedback from customers because they already know what
    best suits them.

Layoffs caused by GOP fanaticism. And Adobe doesn't need to layoff people
again. Like the last time six years ago, they get rid of people when
    the CEO has indigestion.
Yeah, right. Tell us another lie.

Obviously, you are unable to reply in a manner that would be considered
reasonable to most folks: Just insults like a spoiled five year old. You
just can't do any better. Sad.
