    Hello

Does anyone know of any freeware software that is like Adobe Illustrator? I
don't need something that is a direct replacement but something that will
get me started in this field. I have some card designs and have been told
that I need Adobe Illustrator before any printer will do anything, but the
price tag is more than I can afford.

Apologies if this is the wrong news group, but its the only one I can find
that is closest to Adobe products.

    Many thanks

What you're looking for is freeware vector-based application, and this is
the wrong NG, but no prob;)

While some of the tools are different and the interface isn't grown up, I
recommend Expression. After being purchased from CreatureHouse by MS, MS has
been offering a free beta. They stopped development for Mac (%$#&*@!), but
assuming you're on Windows, you might give it a try. I'm not certain if it's
still a free beta, or just a free trial by now. I think all you have to do
is register. They also have forums that you can access through nntp.

For other suggestions you migt try the alt.graphics.illustrator newsgroup
