I have been editing on Adobe Premier for a while now, and like it. I
have a new leader in my church video department who has proposed
buying Avid Express DV to replace our Adobe Premier. He likes the
idea of learning Avid (which I do, as well), because we can use those
skills elsewhere at other editing companies, or at other churchs, if
we need to help them. Plus, he's a Mac guy and I'm a PC guy, and Avid
    will work across both platforms.

My concern is if we are dumping a full powered program (Adobe Premier)
for a less powerful, scaled down version of Avid. We can't affored
the full tilt Avid, but the $699.00 price tag on Avid Express DV is

So, would you upgrade from Adobe Premier to Pro for $299.00 or buy
    Avid Express DV for $699.00.

If anyone has used both, will there be any noticeable loss of
    functionality and features?

    Hey there Randman,

I've used Avid Express DV, Premier, Premier Pro, final cut pro, Windows
movie maker, Imovie, etc., etc. Mac and PC platforms. You're right.
If you learn AVID, you'll do better as far as the industry standard,
but if you're looking for compatability, economomy, and
functionability, I would go to Premier Pro. I've only used it for a
couple projects so far, but I really, really like it. It definately
brings Premier alot closer to the capabilities of avid. Nothing can
really replace avid, but this is a great upgrade to Premier.
