Adobe Premiere & Canopus DVStorm

Discussion in 'Professional Video Production' started by RENTonBroadway, Aug 29, 2003.

  1. Hey Folks,

I received an e-mail from Canopus Corp. They are advertising a great deal. It
includes the DV Storm2 with Storm Bay, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, and
    Adobe Encore for $1299.

    http://store.yahoo.com/thecanopusonlinestore/dvstorm2ultra.html

My question is, I know what all the software will do, but will the DV Storm2
add any additional features, quality, ease of editing to my home videos?

    Thanks for your help,
    Brian

That web page looks almost like a scam site, i'd be very careful about
    ordering from there,
But if it's legit that IS a good deal. The Storm2 hardware will speed up all
of your editing by having to render much less, and having to take less time
    encoding. Even with Premier pro,
Which actually takes LONGER to render certain things than Premier 6.5, by
adobe's own admission!!! I haven't seen drivers yet on Canopus' site to
make PP work with the Storm right now......... possibly another reason to
    beware of a scam...
    Call me anything you want
    But call me
    careful -------- Jack Perry

The site is legit - if you go to Canopus' website, select "Sales", then "How
to buy", then "Buy Direct from Canopus", it takes you to the same page. It
is obviously the official Canopus direct sales web page.

Canopus has a good rep overall - and I haven't seen anything to make me
    suspicious of them.

well that is a good deal, if you have nothing already...
But there are lots of us out here with software already, I just got the
adobe video collection, with all that software and AE6, so to pay $1299
for hardware doesn't make sense. If you bought this package, it ends up the
hardware cost about $500 over getting just the adobe software.
So when they offer a hardware only version at $500 then I'll consider it.
    Same goes with matrox.

    Anthony - they won't. Perhaps aim for a 2ndhand Storm with 6.0 - I'd be
surprised if drivers aren't available for Storm (1) for PPro. Also Canopus
    will be integrating DiVX henceforth.

    David,
Thanks for the advice, so far i am liking the PPro with no added hardware
except 1394, I haven't done a complete project yet, but should know more in
    about a month.

I agree they probably won't release hardware only cards also, but things
always change and it might be to there advantage to at least offer it in the
    future.
Even if they add $100 profit to the hardware alone.

    Thanks,
    Anthony
