After Effects: AVI DV is ugly, QT Animation is beautiful - WHY?

When I render DV (or even non-compressed) AVI in Adobe After Effects
6.5, the output is ugly: jagged, not sharp, somehow distorted etc. If I
do the same using QuickTime Application codec - the resultant video is
    sharp and pretty.

If then I use this QT movie as in Premiere and render it out to AVI DV,
    the result is terrible again.

    What is the problem?

  2. Are you viewing the AVI on a PC? If so, are you aware that
the DV codec included with Windows defaults to displaying at 1/4
    resolution?
