I've finally gotten around to installing AfterEffects 6.5 on my Vista
laptop. It appears to work fine, but I'm not sure about it's compatibility
with HDV. I can force it to import HDV clips and can work with them as a
composition, but the display window is 4 x 3, even when I set the
composition to what should be something HDV compatible, i.e. 1440 x 1080,
1.33 pixel aspect ratio, 29.97 frames per second. Do I just need to dig
around a little more to set this up, or am I wasting my time? I use AE so
rarely that I really don't want to invest $300 in upgrading to the latest
    version.

Your HDV aspect ratio should be 1.777, not 1.333.

    PTravel,

I have found that some programs *like VideoReDo) require and treat HDV as a
4X3 format, since 1440 by 1080 is truly a 4X3 ratio. Others require 1.777 or
16:9 or 'widescreen' settings. I have not used After Effects 6.5 so I can't
confidently say what it requires but it may produce entirely correct HDV
    output at 4:3.
