Well I've been down and bought the £9.99 Aldi tripod. It seems to be
very sturdy when everything is locked down. It weighs in at 1.4kg and
has a height range of 60cm to 156cm. Its 63cm when folded. The plastic
head components look to be the weakest part but it does come with a 3
year warranty. Its made in Germany like most of Aldi's "specials".

It'll certainly do for me as I think I'll only need it now and again and
I couldn't justify anything more expensive.

This tripod is certainly one to avoid. With legs of soft, extruded,
cheap alloy, plastic components and an overall lack of rigidity it is
unlikely to work except in situations where you don't really need a
tripod. But thanks for the review.

I couldn't comment about its long term durability at this stage but I
would dispute your comment regarding its lack of rigidity.

Having inspected the tripod in Aldi, it is a piece of cheap junk.

But I accept that lots of people buy cheap junk tripods, otherwise
Velbon and Slik would have been out of business several decades ago.

I've got a couple of Hama's, and they're great. Got them both second hand.
