What do you think? What's going to change? Will it still be independent?

    Regards,

Big corporation will do whatever serves their income. The consumers are
    expendable :)

  5. Whatever it will be, it won't be independent anymore.Amazon don't want it to
    promote someone elses products.

Even Consumer Reports is neither independent nor unbiased.

Neither do you want an unbiased opinion. "Unbiased opinion" is an oxymoron.

Since Amazon carries virtually every product listed on dpreview, the
only thing they could do would be to steer people towards higher margin
    products.

I think that Phil probably got rich from Amazon affiliate fees, and
Amazon figured that buying such businesses made sense. The affiliate
fees really add up when someone buys a D-SLR, lenses, and a flash.
Amazon changed the fee structure a while back because paying high fees
on low margin products was hurting. If the buyer followed a direct link
to the product the fee was higher too. The most money I make from Amazon
referral fees is from digital cameras, though less now that the fees
    have come down.

Amazon often beats even the New York stores like buydig.com on price.

  8. I'm skeptical about it. I understand how hard it must be to turn
down a big offer and stay independent, but I'm still bummed. I
    can't blame them for selling.

Still, I have a feeling it won't ever be a truly independent
    again.

I always used Imaging Resource, so I don't feel bad at all.

  12. Only a fool thinks that they won't be pushing certain cameras over others.

    Fool.
