Anybody using 64bit, dual core, both?

  1. I'd like to know what 64bit hardware/OS can do for video when rendering
output. Has anybody got it running? How about dual core?

I'm just about there. The pieces for my new system are coming in by the day.
Here is how it is to go:

AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600 dual core processor

    4 Gig matched RAM

    GeForce 7800GTX video card

Three, Maxtor MaXline III 300 Gig drives. (mean time to failure of 1 million
One drive for main O/S and the other two set up in a RAID configuration.

Windows XP Professional x64 operating system

View Sonic 20" LCD large screen HDTV/Monitor, 16ms response time

550W power supply and some sort of case to house all of it. Haven't found one I
    like yet.

    Programs used:
    Premier Pro v1.5
    After Effects v6.5
    Encore v1.5
    Photoshop 9, CS2

It will probably take me a few weeks to get it all put together, install all the
programs, upgrades, patches, plug-ins, tweeks and every other program I forgot I
    installed from years ago.

I hope Premier Pro works with AMD processors for your sake. PP 1.0 did NOT,

it has to do w/ AMD not having MMX technology -- hopefully a NONissue now.

I have an A8N-E running with the dual core 4800+ X2,
and 2GB dual channel/128 PC3200 memory, but so far
I'm too chicken to try the 64bit OS. My capture card
will never have 64bit drivers, so I'm looking for a new
one that is as good and does have 64bit drivers.

You are incorrect. It has nothing to do with the MMX technology. The issue is
the SSE instruction set. This was taken from the Adobe Forums:

PPro will not run on a CPU that doesn't support the SSE instruction set. You
    need a new CPU.

This was taken from the specs of the AMD chip:

The AMD64 core provides leading-edge 32-bit performance and support for future
    64-bit applications

    * AMD64 technology provides full-speed support for x86 code base for
uncompromising 32-bit performance, ready for 64-bit applications
    * 40-bit physical addresses, 48-bit virtual addresses
    * Eight new (sixteen total) 64-bit integer registers
    * Eight (sixteen total) 128-bit SSE/SSE2/SSE3 registers
    * Including support for 3DNow!™ Professional technology and SSE3
