Anyone tried 16 GB flash cards in a Nikon D3 ?

Because if they used that newsgroup for their own private contests
everyone there would tell them to piss off and get lost.
Here, they assume 35mm film is "dead" so they use and abuse
it for their own purposes. That is the real purpose behind the
frequent tirades on "film is dead": create the impression this
is a dead newsgroup, therefore open to any use.

Never mind pbase has its own forum to be used for their own
contests. (they couldn't muster enough interest there anyway!)

Never mind Usenet newsgroups were never created to be used
as "club forums". (even though it's dirt easy to create one
    nowadays in google groups.)

But the silly show must go on...

  2. How hard did you look?

    From:
    http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/digitalcamera/slr/d3/index.htm

    "Nikon's original FX-format CMOS image sensor with 36.0 (H) x 23.9 (V) mm image
    size; 12.1 effective megapixels"

That's 35 mm full frame, unless you are going to pick on 0.1 mm.

Perhaps your best approach would be to issue an RFD for
    rec.photo.equipment.35mm.film or even rec.photo.equipment.35mm.film.moderated.
You could volunteer to moderate the latter.

As for film only being explicit by the charter being written before digital
cameras, I notice the last update on the charter was 2004.11.30. There were
some nice digital 35mm cameras around at the time.

Trust me. Playing net.cop is a waste of a lot of people's time, including
    yours.

  3. The sensor is the same size as a 35mm film frame; however, that doesn't
make it a 35mm camera, which, as others have pointed out, implicitly
means "a camera that uses 35mm film" to the vast majority of folks (even
now, after film is supposedly dead).
    Moderated? Surely you jest ...
In any case, there's *such* a simple solution which requires no new
newsgroups, charters, or associated bureaucracy: since the vast majority
of posts on digicams are about digital SLRs, simply post them to an
    *already-existing* appropriate newsgroup: r.p.e.digital.slr. It's an
absolute no-brainer so far as I can see.

    The D3 is a 35mm camera.
    It is rec.phot.equipment.35mm not rec.phot.equipment.35mm.film
The D3 is not a point and shoot
The D3 is not a range finder.
SO your solution is not to post to an equipment.35mm group about a 35mm
camera but do post to a point+shoot and range finder groups about an
    SLR....

    Is says
ALL ASPECTS of 35mm cameras.... It does not distinguish between film or
    digital..

In fact it does not even mention film.

IT does say 35mm camera bodies. The D3 is a 35mm format camera.

In fact film *is* implicit, because the newsgroup was formed when
"photography" meant "film photography" and when what we now call
"digital" was known as "still video".

  9. Seeing as how people could post references until they are blue in the face, what would YOU consider to be a "real" reference? Possibly an edict chiseled into stone tablets by the fire of God?

Definitions change over time and "implicit" doesn't cut it. Please provide a "real" reference to "film only" with respect to the charter.

Sorry, Wikipedia doesn't cut it. Give us a *real* reference.
No, because it's implicit. Keep in mind that this group was created and
the charter written way before there were digicams around.

Also, "35mm" in the context of a camera size, has referred to film ever
since that fateful day when Thomas Edison asked George Eastman to make some
film for his new motion picture camera invention.
It may be correct to say that a digital camera is a "35mm form factor" or
the same size and cnfiguration as a 35mm camera, but a 35mm camera is one
    that uses 35mm film.

    Not available in Australia (yet).

I used to use our D3 for birds (Swallows are fun). What you call
"machine gunning" is the normal method of shooting fast flying or
darting birds. Not unusual to shoot 4 gig and not get a single usable
image. The one you do get is worth big payola.

I've hit the ceiling with 40x Lexar cards many times. Even 133
Kingston's will bog when pushed. I would definitely recommend 266x cards.
