Anyone using Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4 yet?

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Paul D. Sullivan, Apr 23, 2005.

  1. I'm using the Standard version and really like most of what I'm
seeing. I think it is much improved over Version 2, which I have
had for a while before this.

I was hoping to discuss some of the new features with others who
are using it or are in the know.

    Thanks

I've not had good luck with Ulead's VideoStudio but since I'd qualify
for the upgrade price, I've been thinking about trying MF4 for 30 days
to see if it's any different or better than UVS8.

Just how do you use MF4, and what do you like about it? How does it
compare with other authoring programs you've used?

At the Ulead Web Board you'll find a lot of users with whom you can
    share ideas.

The new version 4 is a lot better than the MovieFactory 2 SE I
have used in the past. First, it has these cool shuttle editing
controls. Like 3 or 4 of 'em now. It is much easier to scan
through the movie to find places to trim and stuff.

The menu creation rules over the past. You can actually move and
resize elements of the menus, including the ability to move the
text around just the way you want it. That is wicked cool.

I do like the Anti-Flicker feature, and it seems to do some kind
of thing with Field Order automatically now. I guess it can read
in all the files, and when you decide to pick an output, like
NTSC DVD, it sets all clips with the proper field order
automatically. I gotta test that out.

Multi-Trim seems easier to use, and the JOIN and SPLIT function
thing is pretty cool. Like I can grab all 20 clips and JOIN
them, then auto-set CHAPTERS to say every 8 minutes, then split
them again so that the final project uses smaller 1 gig files,
and then burn it. I use FAT32 so if I leave them all joined, it
wants to make one huge file of like 4 gig or something.

I do wish there was a way to set it so that you could say "Max
size" for the final VOB files.

Anyway, so far, so good. I'm going to keep messing with it.
There is a LOT of new stuff for someone upgrading from Version 2.
