App needed to automate task: Examine / check video files, report oncodec, other attributes

  1. App needed to automate task: Examine / check video files, report on
codec, other attributes, working with a group of files (specified by
    script? directory?)

Looking for an application which can look into multiple files
automatically and generate a report / text file showing
    PATH\FILENAME.EXT CODEC BITRATE FRAMESIZE FRAMERATE
    PROFILE INTERLACED/PROGRESSIVE
or as close to that as I can get.

I am agnostic as to the operating system it runs on.

Thank you kindly for your thoughtful and on-topic responses.

    Examine / check video files,
    report on codec, other attributes>,

The two most popular such programs for the Windows platform are
    AVIcodec and GSpot.

    AVIcodec

    GSpot

    Hope this helps.
