Are these Geisha's or ordinary housewives?

  1. Who can tell it?
    Are these Geisha's (hostesses) or ordinary housewives in a Japanese
    kitchen?

    I can't answer that quetion, but I can tell you that the locomotive in the picture below
    the one you mentioned was for a cog railway, like the one on Mt. Washington, New
    Hampshire. It is built to be close to level when on the steep slope up the mountain. It
    only looks odd on level ground.

    Personally, I'd rely on the photographer's title for the photo. Why
    doubt it?
