Availability of Agfa Viradon

Discussion in 'Darkroom Developing and Printing' started by Donald Denison, Jul 24, 2003.

  1. According to Tim Rudman's book "The Photographer's Toning Book", page
44, both Agfa Viradon and Kodak Poly Toner have been discontinued. I
just called Agfa's tech rep (Sue) and she says that Viradon has not
been discontinued. I'm not sure about Kodak's Poly Toner. In any case,
there doesn't seem to be a need for hoarding Viradon.

  2. Viradon has not been discontinued but has been changed in
formula. Both Viradon and Polytoner were combinations of a
polysulfide toner and a Selenium toner. The selenium
component has been removed from Viradon, which is now just a
polysulfide toner, much like Kodak Brown Toner.
I've posted Kodak instructions for combining KBT and Kodak
Rapid Selenium Toner to get what is essentiall the same
stuff as Polytoner or the older version of Viradon. I have
no idea why Agfa made this change. Kodak told me they simply
were not selling enough Polytoner to continue making it.
