AVI to MPG - WMP9 won't play properly

    I created an AVI with VirtualDub using DivX (converting a much larger
    AVI which had been captured from the screen with FRAPS). I played this
    280MB AVI file OK in WMP9 and Nero Show Time.

    I then converted the AVI to a 220MB MPG using a downloaded trial of
    AVI-to-MPG. But when played in WMP9 that gives a very corrupted
    picture, with many coloured bits 'splashing' over the image. Yet it
    plays OK in Nero Show Time.

    Can anyone advise likely cause and how I might fix please?
