AVI_IO trial version no longer updated?

A last month I tried capturing avi frames from a webcam I have
using avi_io trial program via the command line in a batch file.
This worked pretty well. Trying the batch file again, I got the
trial expired notification. Per the info on the avi_io web page I
redownloaded the trial version, which didn't work. Taking a
closer look at the web site and trial version, there have been no
updates for over a year. Is avi_io still supported? If avi_io is
no longer being supported, is there another simple single frame
caputre or avi capture application that can be executed via a
simple command line batch file setup? Does windows XP now include
a feature where single frames and avi files can be captured using
something like vbscripting? I found a test web based page that
seems to be able to capture single frames and record avi files
with out any extra software. Not really sure how it works, but it
does produce a live video from the webcam and have the frame
capture functions. Any info much appreciated!
