AVID Timecode for VHS

Here is a question I'm hoping someone can answer.

I receive many source tapes on VHS that we then have to dub to Beta in
order to have timecode to edit with avid.

My question is this. Is there a way to somehow burst timecode onto these
vhs tapes in order to edit with our Avid system. I'd like to skip dubbing
these to Beta because we have too many tapes lying around.

Is there a professional VHS/s-VHS editing deck that will work with AVID
(full control) once there is timecode on these VHS tapes. Sony, panasonic
    etc?

Thanks so much to whoever can answer these questions! Not sure if it's
possible but sure hoping it is.

In the days of Linear Online edits timecode could be dubbed onto a vhs tape
(on a vhs machine that has linear audio channels)
onto one of its audio channels at -20 db

Why you would use vhs as a source I don't know, but Beta (betacam I presume)
IS a good way to achieve your goal.
