I guess you've missed the monster threads that have been overwhelming this
    NG for the last weeks.

B&H is one of the finest photography store available. Either on-line at
www.bhphotovideo.com or in person. Good prices, knowledgeable sales staff,
reliable, and they won't mislead you. I've been in the store as well as
bought many things on-line. If you go to the store, bring time and fist of
cash or a brand new Platinum card with you:~) You won't be able to control

  3. No, but from what I know of them, they are a quality firm to deal with.

Quite a few times. I just bought a Canon 10d from them. They're the most
reputable, reliable and honest camera dealer on the planet. They're not the
rock-bottom lowest, but their prices are very reasonable, and it's worth
paying a couple of dollars more for the peace of mind of knowing you're
    dealing with an honest outfit.

unlike the other end of the spectrum, Broadway photo/video, not that far from
    "Beards & Hats".

Where B&H are jedi, Broadway are the sith, or worse
;-)Not just my opinion, google Broadway Photo Video and the terms scam, fraud,
dishonest, etc. and see what you get.

They have great prices and a knowledgable staff. Just make sure that
everything you buy never has a problem. A friend just purchased a Canon
GL-2 from them. Most places would have replaced the camera that started
eating tapes inside of 30 days. B&H only allows 7 days. I spend just a
little more at a shop that will work with me if I have problems.

    They're the most
Anyone that has ever had a problem with a purchase from B&H would strongly
disagree with that statement. They are about as sleazy as it comes if you have
a problem with the purchase. A much better choice would be Armato's also in
NYC. They are at least as knowledgeable and without the arrogant attitude and
will bend over backwards to make everything go right with your purchase and fix
    anything that doesn't.

We've been doing business with them for about 3 years now and have been
very pleased with their service and prices etc.

Last year I wanted the Century Optics 0.55 WA lens for my GL1. I had
ordered some other stuff as well.. tapes, a tripod bag and something
else. I mistakingly added the VX2000 0.55WA to my cart instead of the
GL1 WA. When the shipment arrived and I tried to put then lens on the
GL1, it didn't fit because it was the wrong kind of adapter.

I called them up and told them what had happened and the guy I talked to
was helpful and gave me a return auth number and told me to ship it back
and they'd exchang it. No problem. Stupid mistake on my part, yes.

Oddly, I was in Manhattan for July 4th last month and I didn't get a
chance to make it to BH. Probably a good thing. I would have come back
    broke. lol

Somehow I knew that if anyone would disagree with my post, it would be you.

Actually, I have had the occassional problem with a B&H purchase. I bought
a Kenko wideangle lens for my VX2000, tried it and didn't like it. I
decided I wanted an Optex, which B&H doesn't sell. I called B&H, was given
an apology (!) and an RMA, all quickly and courteously. I returned the
Kenko lens and my credit card was credited the day it was received by B&H.

Another time, I bought a Sony stereo mike (I don't recall the model number).
When it arrived, I decided it was too big for my intended application
(carrying around an MD recorder for ambient sound and street musician
recording when I shoot). I called B&H, asked to exchange it for a smaller
Sony mike. They said, "no problem," and gave me an RMA, again, quickly and
courteously. I had them send out the smaller mike immediately. I received
it a couple of days later. Again, my credit card was credited the day B&H
    received the first mike back.

I've never, not once, encountered an arrogant attitude at B&H, either
ordering, returning, checking on a tracking number, or visiting in person.
They're a New York outfit, no question (and I can say that, having grown up
in New York). They won't go out of their way to be charming, or to chat.
However, they're always polite and professional.
Again, your experience seems to be unique, as is your perception of the
attitude of the folks at B&H. Perhaps you might want to examine why this is

They're in New York. Almost New Yorkers have an attitude.

If you think they treated you poorly, deal with thge other mail order
houses. You'll think B&H treated you like a goddess.

I've been dealing with them for nearly 20 years. Always excellent service.
Only had a couple of problems with return or replacement items, none of which
were ever a mistake on the store's part. Every time the return or replacement
was quickly and painlessly handled. One time they even got on the phone to a
manufacturer to help me straighten out a problem. I have no qualms in dealing
    with B&H Photo.

My wife and I are both professional photographers and we both like B&H.
However, they don't always have the best prices. If your buying equipment
online you should also take a look at: www.digitalfotoclub.com. I would
recomment that you always shop around before buying.

Abslutely wonderful store and staff. I bought a Nikon lens last month,
and opened the box...looked ok until I put it on the camera and it came
apart!!!!! Really! No questions, B&H replaced it free within 7 days.
Great store, prices a LITTLE more than some competitors but youre
dealing with the best. Ritz is also good.

That's basically what i was trying to say, I agree with your post.
Sometimes non-NewYorkers take this quick, to the point, let's get it done
attitude as rude. It don't take 20 minutes to place an order in NY, because
they don't ask you how all your farm animals are doing by name. :)
