I don't understand all the hostility in this group. The constant
"bickering" is exhausting to read. For those of us that only wish to
find information that is important to what we are doing is like
finding a needle in a haystack. What is the reason for the big ego's &
the need to have the last word on something? Seems to me we are all
photographers here. The more experienced photographers would rather
belittle new photographers, rather than help them. Everyone started
somewhere. Someone helped them along the way somehow, so they should
be more than willing to help someone else. Be come the teacher, not
    the bully.

My experience in this newsgroup is that there is a number of "regular"
    bullies or social perverts.
The simplest solution is to block them in wholesale lots. Lo and
behold you will find fewer names
in the newsgroup but those are people who are honest contributors and
    will be helpful to you.
If you have Windows XP just go to Message in the upper toolbar, click
on Create Rule for Message and check the Delete box. The offending
    poster will not appear again.

I prefer to confront them. To show the speciousness of their
    arguments.

You have a point. Mine is that more people would likely contribute if
they didn't have to worry about the backlash of doing so. I am
greatful to those that have taken the time to respond to my questions
    as well.

I have a mac so I don't have the option to block people. If I blocked
them then I wouldn't get a chance to read something of worth when they
do post it. (Even if it is on sparatic occasions.)

Most of the abuse comes from UC. Since many of his comments are
beyond the pale, I feel they must be confronted.

I learned my stuff through trial and error. I PAID for it with sweat
and blood and film and developer. Why the **** should I give it away?

I have had to learn a lot through trial & error, but there is always
more to learn. After 18 years experience I have learned that by
discussing things in a forum like this and that sharing our
information makes us a better photographer as well. It seems to me
that you would be a great teacher with that much experience. It makes
me feel good to see the awesome work of some of the people I have
helped out. I'm sure as well you can easily see what someone is doing
wrong at a glance & that would be a gift to someone who is struggling
to figure it out alone. I actually would be interested in a book if
you ever felt the urge to write one & share the knowledge you have
    gathered over the years.

And all you have to show for it is a bad attitude.

UC is very angry because he is not a very good photographer. Go to
this post (you'll have to weed through all his words to find links to
his pictures) and you can judge for yourself:

    http://groups.google.com/group/alt....f08bb39658c?lnk=st&q=&rnum=9#575d3f08bb39658c

He's all talk and excuses. As I have said before, his work speaks for
    itself.

And why would you want to learn from an asshole.

    says...
    I don't think he's angry because he's not a good photographer, because I
    don't think he /realizes/ he's not a good photographer - he just doesn't
understand why everyone doesn't afford him the respect he obviously
deserves, and bow down before his creative and technical genius.

Well, UC has argued on another post that photography cannot be art.
Well, after seeing HIS photos I know that is absolutely true.

I don't make photographs for anyone but myself. I do not solicit
    approval or disapproval.
