been using the canon 550ex for a few months now and been seeing a lot of
people (pros) using them (even saw one guy at using one in bounce mode
(60degrees up) in the bright outdoor). i've read up a little on them but
don't think they're worth the $80 or whatever they are here.

i looked at bhphoto and adorama, but they charge US$30 just for postage!
thats almost twice as much as the omnibounce itself. is there a better,
    cheaper way of getting one?

  2. I got mine by cutting a bounce card out of the middle of a white plastic
party plate.... it slips into the wide angle adapter slot of the 550EX, so
no need for velcro or rubber bands.

I know that this is not a stofen, but hey!... the results are the same. :)

at the moment i've been trying out grocery store bags, blown up like a balloon
and sticking the head of the flash in that. works great, but indoor/studio
work *only* :) though i did try it once for macro work. iirc these 2 were
    shot using the bags:

  12. just order it direct from works out to $27 USD including
shipping which is $39 AUD at the moment... not bad compared to local prices

(yes it is overpriced for a piece of moulded plastic but there ya go)

Tis pretty good... a whole $1 cheaper than my offer to him..

  14. yeah but the point here is, there is no stuffing around with email
addresses, no chance that they will have sold thier last unit to someone
else, etc.. .you can order right away... and it'll probably arrive here
    quicker too! heh.

Fair enough..... Anyone interested in one to fit a Nikon SB28 / SB28DX??

Ever so slightly second-hand so $30.00 inc postage..

  16. $42 odd for a 420EX here in Adelaide about four months ago... probably
photographic wholesalers in hutt st, but I can't guarantee it...

Stofen sells them himself on the web, I believe...

    Hey Obake...
Which one are you looking for?
The one that fits like a box over the flash (not good for continious work)
or the angled card that acts as a bounce? Either one $19.95 from
    plus $16 delivery!!!!
I can make you either type for about $20 or perhaps mould you a bubble and
fix a hood to it so you can fit it on your flash. Look like one of those
bulb lamp shades (not for $20 tho!).

  18. erm, shipping is only $7 USD not 16. Just under $27 USD all up, or $39 AUD
    to your door

(dont spose there's any chance the aussie dollar will ever hit 80US cents
    again... fingers crossed though)

thanks to all the replies. hope it helps someone in the future that looks up
google or some other archive to find the best price for a stofen.

i've decided to get one from hugoso. i was going to get a CF card from him
soon and thought i'd ask to see if he stocked stofen's, and he does. US$18
plus US$4postage. i'll be getting it at the same time as the CF card so the
postage could be less if all i get is the stofen.

ot, but i was hoping to get a transcend 1gb 45x CF card but damn they're
expensive :( still around AU$400 (even in HK). i think i'll go with a 512mb
card for now and maybe another one in the future.
