Burning a DVD with Pinnacle's Instant CD/DVD and a Sony DW-U14

I have recently purchased a Sony DW-U14A bundled together with
    Pinnacle's Instant CD/DVD. I have Pinnacle's DV500+ so I thought it
would be ideal for burning DVDs from my projects. Unfortunately the
software does everything it is designed to do except burn DVDs. The
application runs through the file conversion phase but when it says
"burning disk" nothing happens. I have left it overnight and progress
is 0% I have contacted Pinnacle support and they have advised me to
patch my software up to 7.06 and install W2K Service pack 4. I have
installed the software patch to no avail. I am reluctant to go to
Service Pack 4 because when I installed this before my PC would not
boot at all! I suspect a driver conflict somewhere. I had Roxio's Easy
CD Creator installed but I uninstalled that before installing Instant
CD/DVD, I'm wondering if it has left something nasty behind in the
registry. I downloaded a trial version of TMPGEnc DVD Author and was
able to burn a DVD OK. The only problem with TMPGEnc is that it does
not convert .avi files to MPG2 and the only encoders I have found so
far are a bit unstable. I would like to get Instant CD/DVD working as
I like the features and the other parts of the package work well. Has
anybody encountered this problem themselves? Any suggestions? I have
contacted Sony and am awaiting a response. There seems to be no
mention of DW-U14A on their support site so I think it is a very new
drive and they have not got to grips with it yet. A firmware upgrade
may be the answer but when? Any suggestions would be welcomed

You probably won't find anything about it as it's an OEM model. And they won't
    help you. Go to http://www.afterdawn.com
for more info. Or...Dvdrhelp.com you can enter your model number and it will
give you info on that model. BG
