Buying a new digital camera - need advice.

  1. Hello,

I will be buying a new digital camera tomorrow morning with a budget of
    approximately £500.

    What I would like:

    Nice strong colours
    Good non digital optical zoom
    Decent camcorder functionality
    Good battery life

Overall just a good camera for taking pictures of my pet cats and parrot,
and recording my sons birthday party (tomorrow).

I will unfortunately need to buy on the high street in Edinburgh, so most
    likely shops:

    Jessop's
    PC world
    Dixons
    John Lewis
    Argos

    Any tips greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Gary.

I am really only familiar with SLRs so can't really help with a
suggestion for a model but if they exist in your part of the world, then
I would add London Camera Exchange to your list ... I have, in the two
branches I have used (Southampton & Portsmouth) found them extremely
helpful and don't keep looking at their watch if you have questions!

A web site well worth looking at is that of Park Cameras if you are
considering shopping on the 'Net. They give excellent lists of technical
specifications if you want them and their prices are often among the
    best anywhere in the UK.
