My Kodak DX3700 (3 megapixel) produced beautiful images until my last trip
    through Stansted.

http://bizz.co.uk/photo.jpg (400kb) is a detail from what it shoots now!

Can anybody diagnose what has failed and if I do indeed have to bin it ...

I seriously doubt that the Xray caused your problem. I have gone
through numerous airport Xray scanners with two different digital
cameras ( both Canons ) and never had a problem.

    Wish it was :(
Yes you are probably right - further experimentation showed that most of the
menu system was working - but you could no longer select the flash mode.

I had the original firmware upgrade (applied 2 years ago). You are supposed
to load this by turning it on (in setup mode) whilst holding the shutter
downe. But it ignored this and booted normally.

    Looking bad.......
