camera gives same number to photos that are already filed

Discussion in 'UK Photography' started by john hamilton, May 29, 2010.

  1. I was sifting my photos into folders by topic, ie: people, scenery etc. I
found that my photos which are numbered automatically by the casio camera
(for instance photo number CIMG1454) are finding the *same number* for a
different photograph taken five years earlier on a different camera in
    another folder.

In other words i have got two different photos labelled CIMG1454. This
doubling up of photograph numbers is being repeated many times.

Is there any way to change the numbers my camera gives to photographs to
    prevent this confusion please?

Or manually add the date month as part of the file name i.e img123430510 or
img 1234may10 .As this is a common problem they may be some little app out
there which will do it for you.

Remember you cant use certain characters /*- are 3 that spring to mind but
    there are others,

Bulk Rename Utility has the ability to extract the picture taken timestamp
data from the Exif and you can use that to add or replace the existing

It can also rename mp3 files using ID3 tag data apparently.

  5. On Fujifilm cameras you can select either to re-use serial numbers or carry
    on where it left off.
