Can PS benefit from new Pentium Dual Core processor?

    Hi, all:

    Not all software applications can take advantages of new AMD or
    Intel dual core processors (CPU). It depends on whether or not a
    software supports multiple data threading or hyper threading. Dual core
    processor cannot improve the performance of data processing if the
    software support single data threading only.
    How about Photoshop (PS)? Can dual core processors and hyper
    threading technology help improve the performance of PS greatly? My
    guess is YES because PS is such a computing intensive application. It
    should support multiple data threading. However, I am not absolutely
    sure. Please help.
    I am going to buy a new MS Window desktop computer to process my
    medium format slide film. Each image size is about 340 MB. I am not sure
    what kind processor and desktop is best to run PS. Much appreciate if
    you can share your thoughts.

    Just my $0.02, but I've been using ps8 on a P4 hyper 3.2 ghz 1 gig ram over a
    year -closer to 2. ps8 loads in under 3 seconds. I've opened more than 20
    images 320x240 minimum at once. Usually work with about 9 images open.

    Biggest drain was a 20+meg custom PSD with about 30-40 different layers. Things
    slowed a bit. hiding one or two layers brought things back to snap.

    As for a 340 mb file, I doubt even my machine can handle more than 1 of those
    monsters at a time.
    I edit 1 gb mpg's all the time in other programs and things bog. I don't even
    think maxing this machine in memory could handle a 340 mb file very easily.
