How do you open Nikon RAW .NEF files in
Paint Shop Pro version 9. I have read the
PSP help info for "Raw from camera", applied
all the settings, still cannot open the .NEF
files. When I select the folder that contain
the RAW files and select a .NEF file and click
open a box pops up stating, " The specified
file cannot be identified as a supported type"

In the list of files in PSP v9 .NEF files is listed
and also checked but I cannot open them.

Will somebody kindly help with this problem.

    Thank you in advance.

  2. You need to download the Nikon NEF plug-in from the Adopbe website.

No, you need the 8-bit NEF plugin that was at least part of Picture
Project. At least in the "old days" the plugin provided with
NikonView was 16 bit and since PSP9 only works with 8bit jpegs it was
not compatible. So look for the plugin on the CD supplied with your
camera. It would have helped for you to actually mention which one
that is, as the NEF files are different and you will need one which
supports your particular model. Also note only the VERY most basic
adjustments are supported by this plugin. So by using this in
association with PSP9 you are losing a fair bit of the added advantage
    of shooting raw, imo.

I just checked an have an unopened Nikon PictureProject 1.5
will this have the 8-bit NEF plugin? If it is on the CD where
do I have to install the 8-bit NEF file in PSP, if so how do I do it.

It would have helped for you to actually mention which one
My camera is a Nikon D70s

Also note only the VERY most basic

    Thanks

Ahhh, just had a version recall. I was thinking about PSP8, the last I
used, which had no native raw support. PSP( added some rudimentary
support by itself and should have been bundled with RSE as well iirc.
But either may require an update to worth with the D70s and RSE is now
no longer available. You could try temporarily installing PP which
should install the plugin, As I gave up using PSP at v 8 and moved to
PSE and PS, I don't have where it installs plugins.
