Canon 100mm Macro Lens Tripod Collar

    In case anyone else is trying to sort out tripod collars (tripod mount
    rings) for the Canon 100mm f2.8 USM Macro lens, note the following:

    The tripod collar is the same, or virtually so, as that supplied with the
    300mm F4 IS L lens and the 100-400mm zoom. It does however need a plastic
    adapter (called a tripod socket adapter) which goes onto the lens first
    followed by the tripod collar. If bought for the 100mm f2.8 the two parts
    come together.

    If you already have the tripod collar it is possible to buy the plastic
    adapter from Canon in Sydney (phone 02 9805 2000) as a spare part. The part
    number is YG2-0500-000. The cost is $42.50.
