Canon 350D and 400mm lens- suitable extension tubes?

Discussion in 'Canon' started by Bill Henderson, Sep 8, 2008.

  1. I wish to decrease the range of my Canon 400 mm prime lens. Right now, it's
about 3 meters, but I want to halve this amount. I am using a Canon Rebel
350D camera. I have several questions:

What extension tubes are suitable? I see widely varying price ranges, so I
am assuming some significant differences between them, but I am seeking the
    best price.

Second question. I use slave flashes placed within a foot of objects at
the 3 meter range. If the distance between lens/ flashes/ object is
decreased as I plan, what happens to flash intensity. One of my goals is to
    increase flash intensity.

Final question: do I retain use of the manual focus lights in the viewfinder
and also exposure? Currently, I use the histogram to judge correct exposure
so as long as I retain that, exposure is fixed at 1/200 sec with flashes.

    Thanks in advance,
    Bill
